Progressive Design & Construction
MP Lighting is a high-tech lighting manufacturer based in Vancouver, BC. The company specializes in the manufacturing of architectural LED fixtures as well as low voltage, line voltage and 3 circuit track systems for commercial and residential applications. Pheidias Project Management was retained as project and construction manager and Oberto Oberti Architecture provided architectural design for a new 6-storey manufacturing plant, offices and warehouse.
By acting as designers and construction managers, and working together with contractors, the Pheidias group was able to design and construct a building that utilized innovative design and construction methods in order to speed up the construction and reduce costs.
The resulting building is notable in that it used large tilt-up construction methods and was designed to be built in two phases with a number of years between each phase. At the time of construction of the first phase, the building was the largest tilt-up structure ever built in Vancouver. The 60ft, four storey external walls were cast in place, lifted and connected to an interior steel structure.
The second phase added additional parking, office space, showrooms and manufacturing spaces to the existing building.
